Back in Spring Training after Wainright was hurt, people said they wouldn't be a playoff team this year
When they were 10.5 games out in late August, people said they were done.
After losing Game 1 to the Phillies and Brewers, people said they couldn't do it.
Yet here they are.
Last night the Cards finished off the Brewers in Game 6 to win the franchise its 18th Pennant and its first since 2006. The Cards ever since they began this late season run have been proving doubters wrong. They did it again against the Brew Crew. Even though the starting pitching was pretty much awful in this series. The Bullpen stepped it up big time. They came in in the big situations and they delivered. David Freese became a household name by tearing up the Brewers all series long. Albert Pujols had a great series as well.
Now the Cards get ready to face the Rangers who are in the fall classic for the 2nd straight year. This should be a very good series that could easily go seven games and it should also be a great series for people who love offense. Both of these teams got through the LCS with not so good starting pitching and high powered offense. The Cards are gonna have to find a way to at least slow down the high powered Texas offense if they want a chance in this series. With that the Starting Pitching needs to get back on track. The bullpen obviously can't go 5-7 innings every single game. We're going to need to get our starters deep into games. Chris Carpenter is on the mound in Game 1 and is the perfect guy to get a good rhythm. Carpenter has once World Series start under his belt (Game 3 of the 06 World Series.) In that game, Carp was stellar throwing 8 shutout innings against the Tigers in a 5-0 Cards win. The Cards hope Carp will be like that again tomorrow night because the Cards need to slow down that Texas offense to win this series.
Overall this should be a great World Series and as I previously stated it could easily go 7. I think that if the Cards can win the first 2 at home they'll win the series, if Texas gets a split in St.Louis, I think they win the series.
Prediction:
Cards in 6.
