It Can Rain on the Cards' Parade
The past two days have not been short of Redbird fanfare and St. Louisans turned up in droves to revel in the splendor of their heroes. Despite two rain delays in a row, Busch Stadium was packed, and as I watched the World Series flag being raised, I couldn’t be prouder of Cardinal Nation.
Opening Day, itself, did not turn out as hoped. The much anticipated return of Adam Wainwright left us realizing that it is going to take some time for him to settle back in. Perhaps it was nerves – he was after all under the watchful eye of so many hopeful fans – or maybe he just didn’t bring his stuff. Either way, a 9-5 loss to our nemesis was clearly not the way we envisioned the first game back at Busch going. I, myself, blame Friday the 13th...
But the Cardinal bats have not been quiet, and the Birds had a chance to redeem themselves today with a 5-1 win. Jon Jay had a solo shot, Yadi nabbed himself 2 RBIs and a stolen base (that’s right, I said stolen base), and Matt Carpenter has now had two big games in a row with some clutch hits.
All in all, the good has far outweighed the bad. Not only are we 6 and 2 and looking to take the series from the Cubs tomorrow, but we have had the privilege of watching so many critical players in Cardinal history walk our home field. And that, my friends, is a winner right there!
Now, before I leave you for the night, I must ask: Did anyone get one of those replica rings they’d be willing to let me have? ;)
