A few weeks ago, the entire baseball world (including myself admittedly) was saying that the Cardinals were done. They had just been swept at home by the Dodgers. Including a game where the Dodgers destroyed the Cards. The Cards were down and out the media said. Even I had given up hope and started thinking about next year. Then the Cardinals got hot. Since the end of that Dodgers series, the Cardinals have gone 14-5 and now with 13 games left have a shot at catching the Braves in the N.L. Wild Card. Now granted, it's not a very good shot, but hey the Cardinals have at least shown the baseball world that if they do go down, they're going to go down fighting.
Tonight the Cardinals begin a crucial 4 game set in Philadelphia against the best team in the National League. This series is make or break for the Cardinals. If they can survive this series and either split it, or take 3 of 4, or maybe incredibly pull off a sweep. Then I think the Cards have a good shot. Theirs schedule the rest of the way is fairly easy, 3 against the Mets, 3 agianst the Cubs and 3 against the Astros. The Braves schedule is pretty easy too, but if the last series of the season comes and the Cards are just a game or two out, then The Cards will be in a great spot to tie the wild card or win it, While the Cards close out the year against the last place Astros, the Braves close out the year against the Phillies. Either way I'm very proud of how the Cardinals have fought in September. Now let's see if it's enough to get them into October.
