Our second series with Cincy came with some great moments, and some not so great. While Beltran continued to dominate, Holliday broke his slump with a 3-run homer, and we got both a walk-off win and an 11-run winner…We continued to learn last night that Wainwright’s return to the mound isn’t quite the beginning we wanted for him.
Tommy John surgery is not an easy recovery and with each start, we do get to see glimpses of the old Waino we love. So baseball fans can be skeptical all they want, but I’m optimistic he’ll be back to his old self eventually. It’s just going to take some time.
Also on the upside, though, the Cards are coming off a 4-2 homestead, and they’ve taken 2 out of 3 against each of our Central Division rivals (the Reds, twice). If they can continue to do this throughout the whole year, they will be more than in good shape. In fact, they’ll be a lock! Our Birds lead the MLB in runs scored, slugging percentage, and batting average and that is a lot to smile about
